About Frances
Dr Frances H. Mikuriya is the founder of SpinAddikts, the first private indoor cycling group in London training triathletes, cyclists, runners and fitness enthusiasts. SpinAddikts was set up in 2004 after Frances realised the lack of focus and structure in most indoor cycling classes. Frances works with competitive and recreational athletes and her indoor cycling sessions are known to optimise performance and have proven tremendous fitness and performance gains. Frances’ teaching style is motivating and meticulous and her selection of music is upbeat and changes regularly. Although in a group setting, Frances gives attention to each individual to ensure that they maximise their training potential. Her indoor cycling sessions have attracted participants of all levels: from the fitness novice to professional athletes.
Frances’ fitness career started in the US where she was one of the leading indoor cycling instructors in San Francisco and New York. She has taught in exclusive clubs including Equinox Fitness Clubs in New York and the Sports Club/LA in San Francisco. Frances has over 18 years of experience in the fitness industry having taught a variety of group exercise classes and working 1-1 as a private trainer.
Frances’ passion in fitness and health and her quest for continuous development and the most updated knowledge in the fitness industry led her to a number of qualifications; she is an NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Sports Performance Enhancement Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer, TRX Highest Level Certified Coach, Spinning Star Level 3 Lifetime Instructor and Certified Power Plate Trainer. Her interest in movement patterns in sports to achieve optimal performance and injury prevention as well as in improving movement quality in daily life led her to further qualifications to become an FMS Certified Exercise Specialist and an NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist. Frances is a REPS registered Level 3 Personal Trainer and Advanced Fitness Instructor.
Frances’ athletic endeavors started at a young age participating in different sports- her passion was in swimming and she competed on the high school swim team. Her appreciation of the importance of having a good coach to implement a structured training programme to achieve results inspired her to motivate others in fitness.
Frances believes that the key to fitness is to incorporate a structured, realistic and efficient training routine. Equally as important is to enjoy the process and to celebrate the accomplishments of a challenge of all scales- from surviving an indoor cycling class to finishing a race!
Whether your goal is to enhance performance or to lose body fat and weight, Frances will help you implement a structured, efficient and realistic training routine into your lifestyle. Quality always precedes quantity.
It is never too late to start realising one’s fitness potential. The most common and irrational excuses are ‘I have to be fitter to start training’, I will start next week, next month or when I have more time.’ Postponement only leads to more delay resulting in the loss of time to become healthy, fit and happier! Most people tend to underestimate their training potential. If you don’t begin, you’ll never uncover the inner athlete in you and discover how far you can reach!
Outside of training, Frances stays busy with her other passion- architecture. Frances received her PhD in architecture from the Architectural Association School of Architecture where she has taught for 7 years in History and Theory and Design studio. Her PhD dissertation was nominated for the RIBA President’s Awards for Research in 2012. She has also completed an MSc in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University in New York and a second MSc in Adaptive Architecture and Computation from the Bartlett Graduate School of Studies at University College London. Prior to that she has earned her Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Drawing upon her architectural expertise and passion for design, Frances is turning her vision into reality by designing her first fitness studio Body Machine Performance Studio– a 7500 sqft space on High Street Kensington. Stay tuned- we will be launching in October 2018!
